6 steps to improve your fertiliser use efficiency

1. Fertilize according to the actual conditions of the soil and crops

The amount and variety of fertilizer were determined reasonably according to the fertility supplying capacity of the soil, PH value, and the characteristics of fertilizer requirement of crops.

2. Mix nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic fertilizer, and micronutrient fertilizer

The mixed-use of multi-elements and organic fertilizer or compost can reduce the adsorption and fixation of phosphorus in soil and increase the utilization ratio of fertilizer. According to different crops, 6-12 kg of micronutrient fertilizer were applied to each Acre.

3. Deep application, concentrated application, and layered application

Deep application is an important way to increase nitrogen use efficiency and reduce nitrogen loss, which can not only reduce ammonia volatilization but also reduce denitrification loss, on the other hand, reducing chemical fixation can increase the concentration difference with crop roots and promote the uptake of phosphorus by crops. In addition, the mobility of phosphorus in soil is poor.

4. Use slow-release fertilizers

It is known that the use of slow-release fertilizer can reduce the amount of fertilizer and improve the utilization rate. The effect of slow-release fertilizer is longer than 30 days, the loss of leaching volatilization is reduced, and the amount of fertilizer can be reduced by 10%-20% than that of conventional fertilizer. At the same time, using slow-release fertilizer can increase yield and income. After application, the effect of fertilizer is stable and long, the later period is not exhausted, disease-resistant, and lodging-resistant, and the yield can increase more than 5%.

5. Formula fertilization

The experiment showed that the fertilizer utilization rate could be increased by 5%-10%, blind fertilization could be avoided and the waste of fertilizer could be reduced. In absolute value, the amount of nitrogen absorbed by crops, the amount of residual fertilizer in the soil, and the amount of fertilizer lost increased with the increase of the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied, while in relative value, the nitrogen use efficiency decreased with the increase of the amount of fertilizer applied, the rate of loss increased with the increase of fertilizer application.

6. Use it at the correctness period

The nutrition critical period and maximum efficiency period are two critical periods for crops to absorb nutrients. We should grasp these two periods to ensure the maximum efficiency of fertilizer and the requirement of nutrients for crops. Generally, the critical period of phosphorus is in the prophase of growth, and the critical period of nitrogen is slightly later than that of phosphorus. The maximum efficiency period is the period from vegetative growth to reproductive growth.
